Siemens Healthineers and NVIDIA are joining forces to build a new generation of adaptive radiotherapy that combines artificial intelligence, medical imaging and digital simulation. Siemens Healthineers announced the partnership in a statement on Thursday, October 22.
The collaboration was unveiled at the GTC Berlin conference. It aims to make cancer care easier to tailor to each patient while lightening the workload of clinical teams. Siemens Healthineers brings the expertise of Varian, its cancer treatment business, while NVIDIA contributes its accelerated computing technologies and AI models.
Adaptive radiotherapy means modifying a treatment plan as a patient’s anatomy changes, for example when a tumour shrinks or grows or organs shift position. Tracking those changes from one session to the next is meant to spare as much healthy tissue as possible.
The partners plan to use NVIDIA Nemotron models to help oncologists prepare and adjust treatments, according to Siemens Healthineers. CUDA technology could speed up dose calculations and patient-specific simulations, while the Holoscan platform would link data collected in real time with analysis and simulation tools.
The two groups said the initiative could ease some of the technical constraints of adaptive radiotherapy and widen access to personalised treatment, particularly in facilities facing heavy demand for specialised care.
