Morocco‘s U-17 women’s team host Argentina in Rabat on Friday in the third and final round of Group A at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. FIFA has described the match as having the feel of a final for both sides.
Each team has one win and one defeat from their first two games, with three points apiece. The winner will be well placed to reach the knockout stage, while Germany have already secured their place in the round of 16.
Morocco ahead on goal difference
Morocco opened the tournament with a 4-0 win over New Zealand before losing 4-2 to Germany. Argentina began with a 2-1 defeat against Germany, then revived their campaign by beating New Zealand 2-0.
Germany top the group with six points. FIFA noted in its preview that the Moroccan side holds the edge on goal difference, adding that the stakes remain the same for both teams.
“Morocco retains the advantage on goal difference, but the stakes remain identical for both sides, who will have to do everything to keep their destiny in their own hands.”
Home support and experience
FIFA said the Moroccan players, backed by their home crowd, will need to draw on the experience of the previous edition and on their collective strength to go further. For Morocco, the aim is to confirm the progress made since their first appearance at the tournament and to use home advantage to reach the knockout phase.
FIFA also pointed to what the match means for Argentina, who are taking part in the competition for the first time and hope to extend their run.
Tournament format
The tournament runs from October 17 to November 7, 2026, and brings together 24 teams split into six groups. The top two in each group advance to the round of 16, along with the four best third-placed teams.
