Airports of Morocco is pushing its self bag drop system into a nationwide rollout, choosing Rabat-Salé airport as the first stop, the operator said in a statement on Friday.
Six self-service baggage kiosks have just been installed in Terminal 2 at Rabat-Salé airport for Ryanair passengers. The system was first tested with Royal Air Maroc at Mohammed V airport in Casablanca.
The operator plans to extend the technology gradually across the Kingdom’s airports to shorten queues, improve baggage handling and give travellers more independence.
Once checked in, passengers drop their hold luggage themselves, following a guided and fully automated process. Operational estimates cited by Airports of Morocco put the potential time saving at between 50% and 75%.
Close to two thirds of passenger traffic at Moroccan airports is now concerned by the change, according to the statement.
This rollout adds to other measures already introduced by the operator, including the gradual generalisation of mobile boarding passes and the Pax Check system, both meant to simplify each stage of the journey from airport access to boarding.
