The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) handed prizes to 417 of its staff at the in-house Nujoom DEWA Internal Excellence Awards, the utility said in a statement dated Wednesday, November 4. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, DEWA’s Managing Director and CEO, presented the honours at Al Shera’a, the authority’s head office.

The awards covered 18 categories. Eleven recognised professional excellence, including Distinguished Youth Employee, Best Call Centre Employee and Unknown Soldier. Five others went to administrative achievement in areas such as sustainability, corporate agility, innovative initiatives, technical and technological projects, and artificial intelligence and data science.

Two institutional prizes went to the sectors judged to offer the happiest working environment, with separate categories for large and small divisions. DEWA also handed out its Environmental Excellence Award for 2025, the Share K Award for individuals and teams, the Loyalty Award, the Health and Safety Award, the Best Consumption Performance Monitoring Team Award and the Best Cable Jointer Award. The fourth and fifth cohorts of the Field and Excellence Experts Capacity Building Programme were honoured as well.

Al Tayer called human capital the main engine behind the authority’s success. Strong talent, he said, is essential if DEWA is to become the sustainable, innovative corporation with global leadership it aims to be, one committed to Net Zero by 2050. He credited His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, with a vision that set a worldwide model of government excellence.

Addressing the winners, Al Tayer said the awards both recognised what they had achieved and encouraged them to keep innovating and to inspire their colleagues.

Waleed bin Salman, DEWA’s Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence, said the scheme builds healthy rivalry among staff and between sectors. It also leaves the authority better placed to compete in major award programmes at home, across the region and abroad, he said.
