Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB), the naval shipbuilding arm of the UAE’s EDGE Group, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Italian propulsion specialist CMD to study how CMD’s engines could be integrated into ADSB vessels. EDGE Group said the agreement was announced in a statement issued in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday, Nov. 4.
The memorandum was signed at the EDGE Europe office in Paris by David Massey, Chief Executive Officer of ADSB, and Giorgio Negri, Co-founder and Chief Commercial Officer of CMD, which designs and develops advanced propulsion systems.
The deal comes a month after EDGE took a controlling stake in CMD in October 2026. At the time, the group said it intended to work with ADSB on maritime applications for CMD’s high-performance engines.
ADSB designs, builds, maintains, repairs and converts both naval and commercial vessels. EDGE said the shipbuilder and CMD both belong to the group’s defence manufacturing network, which now stretches from the UAE to Europe.
EDGE added that, in Europe, its EDGE Europe arm is developing capabilities, investing in talent and building technology with a long-term outlook.
