The General Directorate for National Security (DGSN) announced on Sunday, November 1, that it has begun setting up a dedicated service to oversee its “central room for major events and crises” at the institution’s headquarters.
The control room is equipped with giant screens running a range of applications and computer systems. It connects in real time to urban video surveillance networks across the country and to the DGSN’s wired and wireless communication systems, with direct access to security databases so that commanders can obtain the information needed to make decisions.
Police officers with specialised training in managing major events and crises will operate the platform. Their skills cover video surveillance systems and drones, communication networks and the use of security databases.
Beyond running the room, the new service will draw up and update response protocols for different scenarios tied to major events and unforeseen crises. Teams will rehearse these procedures through regular simulation exercises during the year to test coordination and cut reaction times on the ground.
The DGSN said the move forms part of efforts to adapt police operational services to the advanced equipment and infrastructure of its new headquarters, covering both the securing of large-scale gatherings and the handling of security crises.
