Police in Marrakech arrested a 31-year-old French national on Saturday, October 31, after determining he was the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by the French judicial authorities, a security source said.
A check of his details against the database of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) confirmed he was wanted internationally under a red notice, issued at the request of the National Central Bureau in Paris.
The same source said French authorities suspect him of involvement in a case of kidnapping, unlawful detention and attempted murder.
He was placed in police custody on the instructions of the competent public prosecutor’s office. The National Central Bureau “Interpol Rabat”, which reports to the General Directorate for National Security (DGSN), was tasked with informing its French counterpart of the arrest pending extradition proceedings.
The security source described the operation as part of the Kingdom’s ongoing cooperation with international police bodies, particularly in tracking down and arresting people wanted abroad for transnational crime.
