Denza Z sets new benchmark for electric supercar performance
The Denza Z marks the arrival of Denza’s first all-electric supercar and showcases the latest high-performance technologies developed by BYD. Unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the model combines extreme power, advanced aerodynamics, rapid charging and track-focused engineering. The flagship versions produce up to 1,604 horsepower, while the Racing variant accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.96 seconds and promises battery charging from 10% to 97% in just nine minutes.
With the Denza Z, BYD’s premium brand aims to strengthen its position in the high-end automotive market. Rather than introducing another performance model, Denza presents a technological showcase designed to demonstrate the capabilities of its latest electric powertrain, battery and chassis systems. The public debut at Goodwood, attended by BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li and former Formula 1 world champion Jenson Button, underlined the company’s ambition to compete with established supercar manufacturers.
Built on the dedicated e³ performance platform, the Denza Z integrates three electric motors, DiSus-M magnetorheological suspension, second-generation Blade Battery technology, Cell-to-Body battery integration and Flash Charging. These systems work together to improve acceleration, thermal management, handling stability and charging efficiency. The focus extends beyond headline performance figures to delivering consistent performance during demanding driving conditions.
The Coupé, Spider and Racing variants feature one front motor and two rear motors, producing a combined 1,604 horsepower and 1,240 Nm of torque. The Coupé reaches 100 km/h in 2.25 seconds and has a top speed of 300 km/h. The Racing version, equipped with optional semi-slick tyres, lowers the sprint time to 1.96 seconds while increasing the top speed to 350 km/h.
Denza also announced a Special Edition producing more than 2,000 horsepower. The model is expected to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under 1.7 seconds and will feature an upgraded thermal management system. The company plans to continue development with the objective of pursuing performance records on Germany’s Nürburgring Nordschleife.

One of the vehicle’s most significant innovations is its charging capability. Using the second-generation Blade Battery and Flash Charging technology capable of delivering up to 1,500 kW through a single connector, the Denza Z is designed to minimize downtime. The system charges the battery from 10% to 70% in five minutes and from 10% to 97% in nine minutes. Even at temperatures as low as -30°C, charging from 20% to 97% is claimed to take only 12 minutes. This approach addresses one of the main challenges facing high-performance electric vehicles by reducing waiting times between driving sessions.
The Racing version further emphasizes circuit performance with redesigned front air intakes, an advanced multi-channel cooling system, a carbon-fibre front splitter, underbody vortex generators, additional ventilation outlets and a three-position adjustable carbon-fibre rear wing. According to Denza, these features generate up to 1,060 kilograms of downforce at 350 km/h.
The upcoming Special Edition goes further with a double-layer composite body structure, full carbon-fibre body panels and an active aerodynamic system capable of reducing drag by up to 40% while producing more than 2,000 kilograms of downforce at 300 km/h. These specifications reflect Denza’s intention to build a supercar capable of sustained track performance rather than serving solely as a technology showcase.
The exterior design balances aerodynamic efficiency with premium styling. Measuring 4.78 metres long, the Coupé and Spider become Denza’s most compact models developed for the European market. Designed under the direction of Wolfgang Egger, the car features sculpted bodywork, functional airflow channels, diamond-shaped rear lights and multilayer paint finishes that change appearance under different lighting conditions.
Inside, the cabin combines performance and technology with a multifunction steering wheel featuring dedicated Track and Boost controls, digital instrumentation, a central infotainment display, wireless charging and extensive use of carbon fibre, suede-like materials and metallic finishes.
Unlike many supercars, the Denza Z offers four seats thanks to its 2.78-metre wheelbase. The Coupé and Racing versions provide a 250-litre luggage compartment that expands to 550 litres with the rear seats folded. Buyers will also be able to personalize the vehicle through ten exterior colours, ten interior colour schemes, multiple brake caliper finishes and various roof options for the Spider version.
