The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has named Nigeria’s Samson Adamu as its secretary general. The confederation announced the decision on Sunday, confirming in the post an official who had been running it on an interim basis since March 2026.
CAF’s Executive Committee signed off on the appointment this week. The final round of interviews took place last Thursday in Cairo, closing a selection process that drew 123 applications before the field was cut to 10, then five and finally three candidates, Adamu among them.
CAF president Dr Patrice Motsepe said the choice followed a comprehensive recruitment process in which the position was widely advertised and a number of candidates were interviewed.
Adamu is no newcomer to the organisation. He joined CAF in 2018 as Director of Competitions and later became Director of Tournaments and Events. CAF says he played a leading role in staging several major continental tournaments, including its flagship competition, the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations.
CAF notes that he also holds a degree from the FIFA Master programme in international management, law and humanities, a qualification tied to the sports sector. In his new role, he will oversee CAF’s day-to-day administration and support the implementation of its strategic priorities.
