Spider-Man: Brand New Day sets Hollywood promotion record ahead of global debut

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is heading for one of the biggest opening weekends in cinema history as the latest Marvel sequel starring Tom Holland rolls out across international markets before its North American debut. Sony Pictures projects the film will earn $465 million worldwide during its first five days, including an estimated $195 million domestically and $270 million from international territories.

Early international results point to a strong box office performance. In South Korea, the film attracted about 688,000 admissions on its opening Wednesday, accounting for 83.2% of all ticket sales, according to the Korean Film Council. The result surpassed the first-day attendance of every previous Spider-Man film led by Tom Holland in the country.

India also delivered a strong launch, with the film collecting 18.01 crore rupees net across 8,779 screenings on its opening day. The Hindi version recorded a 96% occupancy rate. In China, the film generated $35 million on its first day, marking the second-best opening for a non-Chinese film since the post-pandemic recovery. It also earned $7.8 million in the United Kingdom and $4.8 million in South Korea.

If projections hold, the Spider-Man: Brand New Day opening would become the biggest global launch of 2026. It would also rank among the ten largest domestic opening weekends in U.S. box office history. Some tracking services expect an even stronger North American performance, with Variety projecting between $260 million and $280 million.

Sony’s marketing campaign has also broken industry records. Deadline reported that the film’s global promotional partnerships generated an estimated $309 million in worldwide media value, surpassing the previous record of $288 million set by Spider-Man: Far From Home in 2019. The campaign includes 165 brand partners, among them BMW, Samsung, McDonald’s, Little Caesars and Fortnite.

Jeffrey Godsick, Sony’s executive vice president of global partnerships and brand strategy, said the broad network of partners allows the studio to reach multiple audiences rather than focusing on a single demographic.

The Tom Holland Spider-Man franchise has continued to grow with every installment. Spider-Man: Homecoming earned about $880 million worldwide in 2017, while Spider-Man: No Way Home reached $1.9 billion globally in 2021. Brand New Day currently holds a 91% score on Rotten Tomatoes, arriving at a time when several Marvel Cinematic Universe releases have struggled to match earlier box office highs.

Industry analyst Jeff Bock summed up the franchise’s momentum by stating that while superhero fatigue may exist, Spider-Man continues to attract audiences worldwide.
