Morocco apparel exports to EU rise in market share as prices climb

Morocco apparel exports to the European Union fell 9% in value during the first five months of 2026, reaching €1.05 billion, but the country increased its share of the bloc’s apparel market to 2.7%.

The figures come from an August report by the Research and Projects Department of the Istanbul Apparel Exporters’ Association. Morocco remained the EU’s eighth-largest apparel supplier among the bloc’s 10 leading suppliers, compared with €1.16 billion in exports during the same period of 2025.

The decline was more pronounced in volume. EU imports from Morocco totaled 40,693 tonnes between January and May, down 18.6% from 49,964 tonnes a year earlier.

Morocco supplied 111,328 tonnes to the EU in 2024 and 114,844 tonnes in 2025. Despite the lower volume in early 2026, full-year export value reached €2.80 billion in 2025, compared with €2.795 billion in 2024.

The country’s market share nonetheless rose from 2.6% in January-May 2025 to 2.7% in the same period of 2026, an increase of 3.3%. Morocco was among the suppliers that gained market share, alongside China, Vietnam, Tunisia and Myanmar. Bangladesh, Türkiye, India, Pakistan and Cambodia recorded declines.

Morocco apparel exports also recorded a higher average unit value. The import price reached €25.9 per kilogram in the first five months of 2026, up 11.8% from €23.1 per kilogram a year earlier.

Morocco ranked second among the leading suppliers by unit price, behind Tunisia and ahead of Vietnam. For the full year 2025, its average price stood at €24.4 per kilogram, compared with €25.1 in 2024.

For clothing covered by Chapters 61 and 62, Morocco again ranked eighth among the EU’s 10 leading suppliers. Imports from Morocco reached €1.03 billion, down 9% year on year, while volumes fell to 32,375 tonnes from 35,587 tonnes.

The unit price for these clothing categories reached €31.7 per kilogram, placing Morocco second among the top 10 suppliers, behind Tunisia.

Morocco benefits from duty-free access under the Euro-Med free trade framework when the required EUR.1 certificate is provided. The report did not rank Morocco among the EU’s top 10 suppliers of textiles and raw materials or of Chapter 63 made-up textile products.
