Koun impérial collection celebrates Morocco’s imperial heritage through design
The Koun impérial collection is on display at Galerie H in Casablanca from June 30 to July 4, 2026. The exhibition brings together 25 one of a kind pieces created by KOUN, a social enterprise supported by the Valyans Foundation. The collection combines contemporary Moroccan design with sustainability and social impact.
Inspired by Morocco’s four imperial cities, the Koun impérial collection transforms reclaimed textiles, plastics, and rare materials into unique decorative and functional objects. The project reflects a commitment to circular design by giving new value to materials that would otherwise be discarded. Each piece carries a story of renewal while drawing on Moroccan craftsmanship and cultural heritage.
The exhibition at Galerie H, the concept store dedicated to contemporary Moroccan design by the Holmarcom Group, coincides with the spirit of World Environment Day. It presents circularity as an integral part of the creative process rather than a marketing concept.
Kenza Bensalah, administrator of the Holmarcom Group, said the collaboration reflects the company’s commitment to supporting contemporary Moroccan design rooted in local heritage while addressing modern challenges. She noted that the initiative promotes responsible creation, showcases local expertise, and generates measurable social impact.
The collection takes inspiration from the distinct identities of Rabat, Meknès, Marrakech, and Fès. Rather than reproducing historical motifs, the designers reinterpret the spirit of these cities through a contemporary lens. The result is a series of works that connect tradition with innovation and demonstrate how cultural heritage can evolve through modern design.
Since its launch in 2017, KOUN has focused on transforming discarded materials into high value creations. Through its three workshops, the organization trains artisans and equips young people with professional skills. More than 200 young people have completed training and entered the workforce through the initiative.
Saadia Slaoui, co manager of KOUN, said the project is built on the belief that providing young people with skills, opportunities, and trust can produce remarkable results. She described the Koun impérial collection as proof that social inclusion and creative excellence can go hand in hand.
Creative director and co manager Nada Diouri said KOUN believes design can convey meaning, beauty can be responsible, and every creation can serve as a tool for positive impact. The collection demonstrates how design, craftsmanship, and sustainability can work together to create lasting value for both communities and the environment.
