DS Automobiles targets strong result in Tokyo E Prix night races

The Tokyo E Prix will introduce a new chapter in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship as the Japanese event stages its first night races on July 25 and 26. DS Automobiles and PENSKE AUTOSPORT will rely on Maximilian Günther and Taylor Barnard to compete on one of the most demanding street circuits of the season.

Tokyo will welcome Formula E for the third consecutive year, with the championship’s 14th and 15th rounds taking place around the Tokyo Big Sight exhibition center. All ten teams entered in season 12 will compete on a circuit known for combining long straights with tight corners, placing a premium on energy management, precision, and overtaking strategy.

This year’s edition introduces a major change as both races will be held after dark for the first time since Formula E arrived in Japan. The Saturday race will also feature the Pit Boost system, requiring a mandatory fast charging stop that adds another strategic element for teams and drivers.

DS Automobiles will field its DS E-TENSE FE25 cars with a driver lineup that already has proven experience in Tokyo. Günther claimed victory on the circuit during season 10, while Barnard secured third place in the first Tokyo race held in 2025. Their previous performances provide valuable knowledge ahead of the championship’s return.

The Japanese street circuit demands consistent efficiency throughout the race. Teams must carefully balance battery usage, race pace, and overtaking opportunities while adapting to changing track conditions under floodlights.

Since joining Formula E, DS Automobiles has established one of the championship’s strongest records. The manufacturer has competed in 150 races, winning four championship titles, 18 victories, 55 podium finishes, and 26 pole positions.

The two Tokyo races will begin at 13:00 Central European Time, corresponding to 20:00 local time in Japan, as DS Automobiles seeks to add another strong performance to its Formula E history.
