CNP elections commission sets August 4 deadline for updated journalist lists

The provisional commission overseeing the National Press Council of Morocco elections has called on all media companies to submit updated lists of professional journalists holding valid press cards by August 4, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. The request is part of preparations for the upcoming CNP elections and aims to ensure that the electoral process is based on accurate and up-to-date professional records.

According to the commission, media organizations must submit the updated lists either by delivering them directly to the council’s headquarters or by sending them electronically before the stated deadline. Only journalists currently employed by the respective media organizations and holding a valid professional press card should be included.

The commission also urged media companies to report all cases in which journalists have permanently ceased their professional activity. The information will be used to update the professional database and ensure that the electoral rolls accurately reflect the current status of eligible journalists.

The request forms part of broader preparations for the National Press Council elections. The commission said the updated database will support all electoral operations linked to the vote and help establish reliable voter lists.

It also reminded media directors of their obligations under Article 11 of Law No. 89.13 governing the status of professional journalists. The provision requires press companies to notify the National Press Council whenever a professional journalist holding a valid press card permanently leaves the organization so that the necessary legal and administrative measures can be taken.

The commission said the update is intended to ensure that all preparatory stages of the elections rely on precise and verified information. It added that accurate records will strengthen transparency, integrity, the reliability of the electoral lists, and equal treatment for all journalists and media organizations participating in the process.

The commission concluded by urging all media companies to comply with the request and respect the August 4 deadline to support a transparent, well-governed, and credible electoral process.
