His Majesty King Mohammed VI chaired a working session on Wednesday at the Royal Palace in Rabat devoted to progress on the Nador West Med port and industrial complex, as well as to the expansion of Tanger Med, including the launch of construction of the new Tanger Med 3 port.
The first terminal at Nador West Med is due to begin operating in the coming days.
Nador West Med is designed as a large integrated industrial and port platform meant to serve as a maritime transshipment hub. It will include two container terminals along with several energy and industrial terminals. The complex is set to complement what Tanger Med already offers and to strengthen the Kingdom’s logistics, industrial and energy position.
On the Strait of Gibraltar, Tanger Med 3 will be added to the existing Tanger Med and Tanger Med 2 facilities. Once complete, the port complex will reach a capacity of nearly 20 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) a year.
The new port is scheduled to enter service in 2031.
