The Interior Minister met leaders and officials of political parties without a parliamentary group or grouping on Thursday afternoon in Rabat, in a second round of consultations on the 2027 elections, according to a statement from the Ministry of the Interior.

Wednesday, October 28, had seen a first round of talks with parties that do hold a group or grouping in Parliament. Both meetings were held in execution of the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI on preparing for the 2027 polls.

Those polls will elect members of communal councils, prefectural and provincial councils, regional councils, professional chambers, employee representatives and the House of Councillors.

Party leaders were briefed on the main issues in drafting the general framework for the upcoming votes. These include extending the legislative measures adopted to prepare the election of the House of Representatives on September 23, 2026, chiefly those concerning the moralisation of electoral operations. The minister also gathered the parties’ views on measures and provisions that could form part of the 2027 legal framework.

Parties were asked to submit their proposals to the Ministry of the Interior before November 15, 2026. These will feed into a preliminary framework for possible amendments to the electoral legal framework, which would then go through the legislative process as quickly as possible, the ministry said.

The meeting unfolded in a positive climate, the statement added, marked by a frank and responsible debate. Party leaders committed to working with public authorities and other stakeholders to make the 2027 elections a distinguished milestone in consolidating the Kingdom’s irreversible democratic choice, under the wise leadership of His Majesty the King.
