His Majesty King Mohammed VI has received a congratulatory cable from US President Donald J. Trump on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of Throne Day, carrying messages that underscore the strength of bilateral relations and Washington’s positions on a number of issues of mutual interest.
In the cable, the US President extended his congratulations to HM the King and to the Moroccan people, noting that this year marks 250 years of American history and of the enduring friendship between the United States and Morocco, and stressing that this relationship is founded on trust and mutual respect.
US position on the Moroccan Sahara reaffirmed
On the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, President Trump stressed that the position of the United States is unambiguous, reaffirming Washington’s recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Moroccan Sahara and its support for the Moroccan autonomy initiative as a serious, credible and realistic proposal that represents the only basis for reaching a just and lasting solution to this dispute.
He added that any other path would only prolong the current situation, which he described as unacceptable, stressing that the time has come to end this dispute and that the United States will continue its efforts to push for progress in this direction.
Praise for security partnership and Morocco’s regional role
The US President also highlighted that the wise leadership of HM the King is a pillar of stability, commending Morocco’s continued commitment to serving peace, fighting extremism and enhancing the security of American and Moroccan citizens.
He further noted that Morocco’s role in the Abraham Accords reflects the value of the partnership between the two countries, affirming that both sides will continue working together to strengthen security in the Sahel region.
New horizons for economic cooperation
On the economic front, the cable stated that the development vision led by the Sovereign is opening new opportunities for prosperity for the Moroccan and American peoples and economies.
President Trump said he had instructed his teams to work on advancing economic and social development with Morocco, including in the Moroccan Sahara region, noting that American technology and innovation will remain reliable partners for Morocco over the next 250 years across various strategic sectors, chief among them energy, artificial intelligence, rare minerals and defence.
The US President concluded his cable by affirming that the two countries will work together to build a new chapter that places the interests of both peoples at the top of their priorities.
