Kazakhstan opens honorary consulate in Marrakech with Younes Essassi appointed consul

The Republic of Kazakhstan has officially inaugurated its honorary consulate in Marrakech, appointing Younes Essassi, founder and chief executive of Anfa Realties Group, as Honorary Consul for the Marrakech district. The inauguration ceremony took place at the Les Villas d’Anfa Marrakech development in Chrifia, on the Tassoultante road.

The new honorary consulate strengthens Kazakhstan’s diplomatic presence in Morocco by providing local consular services for Kazakh nationals living in or visiting the Marrakech region. It is also expected to promote closer cooperation between Moroccan and Kazakh institutions, businesses, cultural organizations, and tourism stakeholders.

The ceremony was attended by Saulekul Sailaukyzy, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Kingdom of Morocco. Moroccan officials present included representatives of the Marrakech-Safi Regional Council, the Marrakech Municipal Council, the Regional Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services, along with business leaders, academics, and members of the diplomatic community.

The opening reflects the continued development of relations between Morocco and Kazakhstan since diplomatic ties were established on May 26, 1992. Recent milestones include the opening of Kazakhstan’s embassy in Rabat in December 2020, the implementation of a reciprocal visa exemption for stays of up to 30 days in March 2025, and the creation of the Kazakhstan-Morocco Business Council. These developments demonstrate both countries’ commitment to expanding economic, institutional, and people-to-people cooperation.

The honorary consulate is expected to serve as a platform for strengthening business partnerships, supporting bilateral cooperation projects, and encouraging new investment opportunities between the two countries. Its location in Marrakech provides access to one of Morocco’s leading international tourism, business, and cultural destinations.

The consulate is headquartered within the Les Villas d’Anfa Marrakech project, Anfa Realties Group’s first real estate development in the city. As Honorary Consul, Younes Essassi will work in coordination with the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Morocco while carrying out the responsibilities assigned to the honorary consular office.

The inauguration ceremony, held on July 22, 2026, marked the establishment of a new diplomatic platform dedicated to reinforcing long-term friendship, dialogue, and partnership between Morocco and Kazakhstan.
