Fes launches major logistics hub to boost regional growth

Construction work has officially begun on a new logistics zone in the province of Moulay Yacoub near Fes, a project backed by a public investment of 275 million dirhams aimed at strengthening regional competitiveness and supporting economic development across the Fes-Meknes region.

The project is being developed by the Moroccan Agency for Logistics Development in partnership with the Regional Council of Fes-Meknes. The future logistics platform forms part of broader efforts to enhance the competitiveness of the national economy, support advanced regionalization, and strengthen the role of regions as drivers of sustainable development and job creation.

A strategic logistics platform

The logistics zone will cover 32 hectares and will include modern warehouses, refrigerated storage facilities, and infrastructure dedicated to transport and logistics activities.

According to Minister of Transport and Logistics Abdessamad Kayouh, the platform is expected to optimize the movement of goods, reduce logistics costs, improve delivery times, and enhance supply chain efficiency.

The first developed plots are expected to be made available to operators in 2027 following an 18 month construction period.

Supporting regional competitiveness

Located at the gateway to Fes, the new infrastructure is expected to become a major logistics hub serving the wider eastern part of the Kingdom.

The project is part of Morocco’s national strategy to improve logistics competitiveness and will complement other structural projects, including the future El Hajeb road center. Authorities expect the initiative to strengthen the economic attractiveness of the Fes-Meknes region while encouraging the integration of logistics professionals into the formal sector.

The platform is also expected to contribute to the creation of both direct and indirect employment opportunities.
