Harry Kane has won the Ballon d’Or. The Bayern Munich striker and England captain received the award on Monday evening, 26 October, at the ceremony organised by France Football at the London Palladium, the first ever held in the British capital. Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi, the Paris Saint-Germain full-back, finished 13th in the final ranking, according to the official standings published on the Ballon d’Or website.

Kane is the first Englishman to win the award since Michael Owen in 2001, ending a 25-year wait. The 33-year-old was handed the trophy by two-time winner Ronaldo of Brazil as the auditorium chanted his name.

Hakimi in 13th place

The only Arab player on this year’s 30-man men’s shortlist, Hakimi was ranked behind England’s Jude Bellingham (11th) and Spain’s Pau Cubarsí (12th), and ahead of his PSG team-mate Vitinha of Portugal (14th).

That is a drop from 2025, when the Moroccan full-back came sixth, the highest finish ever by a Moroccan player according to the official Ballon d’Or website. No Moroccan player, man or woman, won any other award on the night.

Hakimi’s club, Paris Saint-Germain, was named men’s club of the year for the second year in a row, and several of his team-mates made the ranking, including Portugal’s João Neves (19th) and Nuno Mendes (23rd), Ecuador’s Willian Pacho (20th) and Brazil’s Marquinhos (25th).

An extraordinary season for Kane

Kane scored 73 goals for Bayern and England in 2025-26. He topped the Bundesliga scoring chart for a third straight season and was Europe’s leading club scorer. He also led his country to bronze at the 2026 World Cup by winning the third-place match, England’s best finish at the tournament since they lifted the trophy in 1966.

Earlier in the evening, Kane had collected the Gerd Müller Trophy for the best striker, before being named winner of the main prize at the close of the ceremony.

“I am almost speechless. Being here in London has made it extra special… Thank you to everyone who voted for me. I can imagine it was tough this year.”

Those were Kane’s words on stage, where he also congratulated the other winners and nominees.

Putellas wins the women’s award, Lamine Yamal makes it three

In the women’s game, Spain’s Alexia Putellas won her third Ballon d’Or, equalling the record of her compatriot Aitana Bonmatí. Lamine Yamal took the Kopa Trophy for the best young player for the third year running, while Vicky López retained the women’s Kopa for a second straight year.

The Yashin Trophy for the best goalkeepers went to Spain’s Unai Simón and Cata Coll, and the coach of the year awards to Spain manager Luis de la Fuente and Barcelona women’s coach Pere Romeu. Mexico’s Charlyn Corral was named women’s striker of the year, England’s Bukayo Saka received the Socrates Award for humanitarian work, and Barcelona won women’s club of the year.
