Al Hoceima expands school infrastructure with new education projects

Al Hoceima province is preparing a new phase of investment in school infrastructure, including the construction of new schools, additional classrooms, and upgrades to existing facilities, with a strong focus on expanding preschool education.

The program, led by the Ministry of National Education, includes the construction of two new schools in Tassasnt, located in the municipality of Imzouren, and Talarouak, in the municipality of Issaguen. Authorities also plan to add 24 classrooms and create 44 preschool classrooms.

The investment package includes the construction of 50 sanitation blocks and five perimeter walls designed to improve school conditions and strengthen security across educational facilities.

Upgrades across the education network

The modernization effort extends beyond new construction projects. A total of eight middle schools, six high schools, 40 primary schools, and 25 preschool classrooms will undergo renovation and improvement works.

Infrastructure development also includes connecting 40 educational establishments to the electricity network, 20 to drinking water services, and 20 to sanitation systems. The program combines expanded capacity with improvements to existing facilities.

Officials aim to enhance learning conditions, student comfort, and access to essential services throughout the province’s schools.

According to data from the High Commission for Planning, during the 2023-2024 school year Al Hoceima had 10,044 children enrolled in preschool education, 48,029 primary school students attending 162 schools, and 18,867 students enrolled in 42 middle schools.

Focus on preschool development

The projects form part of the National Education Roadmap 2022-2026, which seeks to improve foundational learning, reduce school dropout rates, and continue the expansion of quality preschool education across the country.

Preschool development remains a key pillar of the strategy. Nationally, more than 985,000 children were enrolled in preschool education during the 2025-2026 academic year, with approximately 67 percent attending public institutions. More than 2,500 new preschool classrooms were opened nationwide to expand educational access.

In Al Hoceima, the strategy will result in the creation of 44 new preschool classrooms alongside the refurbishment of 25 existing preschool facilities. Combined with new schools, additional classrooms, and modernization works, the investments are expected to support growing educational needs while improving infrastructure for students and teaching staff.
