La Mamounia spa brings Susanne Kaufmann treatments to Marrakech
La Mamounia’s spa in Marrakech now offers Susanne Kaufmann treatments, from a 2,700 MAD facial to a hammam ritual, says director Marie Casaux.

The spa at La Mamounia in Marrakech has been the only address in Morocco offering Susanne Kaufmann treatments since October 1, spa director Marie Casaux said in an interview with La Tribune de Marrakech.
Casaux, who has run the Spa for a little over two years, said she had long wanted to bring in the Austrian brand alongside Valmont, which the Spa already carries. Her aim was a house strong on both fronts at once. “A brand often excels either in its protocols or in its products. Susanne Kaufmann brings the two together,” she said.
For Casaux, the core of the method is that relaxation comes first and the products second, which she said is exactly what the founder is after.
Born in an Alpine hotel
The brand’s roots lie in the Bregenzerwald, a valley in the Austrian Alps, where Susanne Kaufmann grew up in a family of hoteliers. She developed her first treatments in the spa of the family hotel in Bezau, drawing on daily work in the treatment rooms, and launched the brand in 2003. Casaux sums up that lineage as “spa treatments for spas”.
According to Casaux, the founder still lives two minutes from the treatment rooms and continues to test there the techniques that help skin absorb the formulas. She works with a short supply chain, using mountain plants sourced close to home, and packages her products in glass.
The product that made the brand known is a bath oil called Bath for the Senses. Each bottle holds a sprig of rosemary placed by hand by local residents, Casaux said.
Training before launch
Before opening in Marrakech, the brand trained the Spa’s staff. Susanne Kaufmann’s team visited several times, and its head of training returns on a regular basis. The trainer even designed a deck of cards so therapists could practise on one another.
“In twenty-five years in spas, I have rarely seen training of such quality.”
Casaux also said the founder came in person to try the treatments before the press arrived. “She has an eye for detail. This brand is her child, and it shows,” she said, adding that her long-standing team now performs the treatments “with even more heart”.
The founder taught the director a step of her own: Casaux said nobody had ever told her that a toner should follow double cleansing to rebalance the skin’s pH.
Adapted to Marrakech
The protocols were then reworked for their new setting. Given the city’s climate, hydration takes centre stage, both for local skin and for travellers arriving after hours on a plane. Relaxation is the second pillar, since clients also come to the Spa to recover, and each treatment is tailored to the person’s routine and the condition of their skin on the day.
What sets a Susanne Kaufmann treatment apart, in Casaux’s view, is “everything surrounding the treatment: the ritual, the scents”. She links those hard-to-place fragrances to mountain plants and associates them with relaxation.
Menu and prices
The menu lists four facials, three body treatments, a two-hour face and body ritual that Susanne Kaufmann created for La Mamounia, and a hammam. For a first visit, Casaux recommends the 90-minute signature facial, built around the skin’s needs at the time of the appointment.
She also points to the Susanne Kaufmann hammam, in which a personalised hammam is followed by a signature massage. “This treatment brings our two traditions together, and that is what makes it interesting,” she said.
According to the Spa’s official menu, consulted on Oct. 27, 2026, the signature facial costs 2,700 MAD for 90 minutes. The 120-minute signature face and body ritual and the 120-minute hammam with signature massage are each priced at 2,900 MAD.
Most clients are hotel guests, but people from Marrakech and visitors passing through also book treatments. “Today, clients are looking for experiences,” Casaux told La Tribune de Marrakech.
Treatments are open to non-resident clients, with residents given priority in high season. Booking a treatment does not include access to the indoor pool or sports facilities, which are reserved for hotel guests. The Spa, on avenue Bab Jdid, takes reservations on +212 524 38 86 00.
