Renault launches Rafale SUV coupe in Morocco with hybrid power
Renault Maroc has introduced the new Rafale in Morocco, expanding its electrified SUV lineup with a D segment SUV coupe designed to strengthen the brand’s positioning in a market where demand for SUVs continues to grow. The model arrives with a 200 horsepower E Tech full hybrid powertrain and will be offered in two versions priced at 399,000 dirhams for the techno trim and 423,000 dirhams for the esprit Alpine trim.
The launch was marked by a drive test event to Rabat on July 2, culminating at the Mohammed VI Tower. Participants visited the observatory located on the building’s 51st floor, a setting chosen to reflect the ambitions associated with the new model and Renault’s efforts to elevate its brand image.
A flagship model for the Renault range
Renault positions the Rafale as a flagship vehicle within its SUV portfolio. The model takes its name from both the concept of speed and wind and from the historical Caudron Renault Rafale aircraft, which reached a speed of 445 km/h in 1934.
The SUV coupe adopts a fastback inspired silhouette with a long horizontal hood, sculpted front end, pronounced shoulders, widened tracks, and 20 inch wheels. Renault describes the design as part of a new styling language that has already appeared on recent models such as the Clio.
The Rafale measures 4.71 meters in length, 1.86 meters in width, and 1.61 meters in height. Its 2.74 meter wheelbase is intended to preserve rear passenger space while maintaining the vehicle’s dynamic roofline.
Hybrid technology without charging requirements
For the Moroccan market, Renault has chosen to offer the Rafale exclusively with its E Tech full hybrid 200 horsepower powertrain. The company says the configuration supports its electrification strategy while avoiding the need for charging infrastructure.
The model builds on the E Tech technology already introduced in the Austral full hybrid SUV, while adding a more upscale and image focused dimension to the range.
Built on the CMF CD platform developed by the Alliance, the Rafale can be equipped with the 4Control Advanced four wheel steering system depending on the version. At low speeds, the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction of the front wheels to improve maneuverability. At higher speeds, they turn in the same direction to enhance stability.
Technology and materials aimed at a higher market position
Inside, the Rafale features Renault’s latest digital technologies, including the dual screen OpenR interface and the OpenR Link system with integrated Google services. The system includes Google Maps, Google Assistant, Google Play, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay.
Renault has also focused on interior materials and design details to reinforce the model’s positioning. Among the standout features is the Solarbay panoramic roof developed with Saint Gobain, which allows sections of the glass roof to become opaque without the use of a traditional sunshade.
The esprit Alpine version introduces additional styling elements, including natural slate, tinted cork materials, tricolor stitching, and a sportier interior presentation intended to enhance the vehicle’s perceived value.
Two versions with a limited price gap
The Moroccan lineup consists of two trim levels. The techno version is priced at 399,000 dirhams, while the esprit Alpine version is available for 423,000 dirhams.
With a price difference of 24,000 dirhams between the two variants, Renault aims to offer customers a choice between a well equipped entry version and a more distinctive trim focused on design and premium appeal.
Through the Rafale, Renault strengthens its electrified SUV offering, expands its presence in the D segment, and signals its ambition to move further upmarket while maintaining its position as a mainstream manufacturer.
