Morocco’s automotive sector powers export growth as shipments top MAD 77 billion

Morocco automotive exports

Morocco’s automotive exports exceeded MAD 77 billion by the end of May 2026, marking a 15.9% increase compared with the same period a year earlier and reinforcing the sector’s position as the country’s leading export industry, according to data from the Exchange Office.

Automotive and aerospace sectors post strong gains

The Exchange Office attributed the automotive sector’s growth to strong performances in the construction and cable segments.

Exports from the construction segment rose 27.1% to MAD 31.30 billion, while cable exports increased 12.2% to MAD 28.89 billion. The figures reflect continued demand for Morocco’s automotive manufacturing output.

Morocco’s aerospace industry also recorded solid growth during the first five months of the year. Exports from the sector climbed 14.2% year on year to MAD 13.85 billion.

According to the Exchange Office, aerospace performance was supported by a 19.7% increase in assembly exports and a 3.6% rise in exports of Electrical Wiring Interconnection Systems.

Mixed performance across export sectors

Exports from Morocco’s agriculture and agri food sector increased by 3.4% during the January to May period.

Several other sectors, however, recorded declines compared with the same period in 2025. Textile and leather exports fell 9.1%, while electronics and electricity exports dropped 9.8%. Exports of phosphates and derivatives also decreased by 11.2%.

Despite these contrasting sector performances, Morocco’s overall exports continued to grow.

The Exchange Office reported that total exports reached MAD 211.41 billion by the end of May, representing a year on year increase of 5.8%.

The latest figures highlight the automotive industry’s central role in supporting Morocco’s export growth and its contribution to the country’s industrial development.
