Morocco heatwave intensifies as temperatures reach 46C
Morocco remains under a severe heatwave as high temperatures, thunderstorms, hail, and strong wind gusts are expected across several provinces through Friday.
According to the national meteorological authorities, the Morocco heatwave will bring temperatures between 44 and 46 degrees Celsius to the provinces of Zagora, Tata, Assa-Zag, Boujdour, Es-Semara, Aousserd, and Oued Ed-Dahab.
Temperatures ranging from 41 to 44 degrees are forecast in Kenitra, Taounate, Meknes, Fez, Moulay Yacoub, Khemisset, Sidi Kacem, and Sidi Slimane. Similar conditions are expected in Khouribga, Fquih Ben Salah, Settat, Youssoufia, Rehamna, El Kelaa Sraghna, Chichaoua, Marrakech, and Taroudant.
Several Atlantic and central provinces will also experience unusually hot weather. Temperatures between 38 and 41 degrees are expected in Larache, Sale, Rabat, Skhirate-Temara, Nouaceur, Casablanca, Mohammedia, Berrechid, Benslimane, Mediouna, El Jadida, Sidi Bennour, Essaouira, Safi, Ouezzane, Khenifra, and Beni Mellal.
Alongside the extreme heat, thunderstorms are forecast to affect Taourirt, Jerada, Tinghir, and Zagora. Rainfall could reach between 5 and 25 millimeters in some areas.
Meteorologists also warned of possible hailstorms and strong wind gusts accompanying the storms. Authorities continue to monitor weather conditions as the Morocco heatwave persists across large parts of the country.
