Morocco consumer prices fall 0.9 percent in May

Consumer prices in Morocco declined in May, driven by lower food costs, according to data from the High Commission for Planning.

The consumer price index fell by 0.9 percent compared with April. Food prices dropped by 2.1 percent, while non-food prices remained unchanged.

Vegetable prices recorded the sharpest decline, falling 8.6 percent over the month. Fish and seafood prices decreased by 3.7 percent. Meat prices went down by 1.9 percent, while milk, cheese and eggs declined by 1.7 percent. Oils and fats also fell, alongside a slight decrease in coffee, tea and cocoa.

Fuel prices also moved lower, falling by 3.6 percent compared with the previous month.

Price declines were recorded across several cities. Safi saw a drop of 2.1 percent. Beni Mellal followed with 1.3 percent. Casablanca, Tangier and Al Hoceima each registered a decline of 1.2 percent. Fez and Errachidia recorded 1.1 percent decreases. Agadir, Rabat and Laayoune each fell by 1.0 percent.

Compared with May 2025, prices remained higher overall, rising by 1.2 percent. Non-food prices increased by 2.6 percent over the year, while food prices declined by 0.7 percent. Transport recorded the strongest annual rise, up 8.1 percent.

Core inflation, which excludes volatile products and regulated prices, increased by 0.3 percent from April. It declined by 0.1 percent compared with the same month last year.
