Morocco and Kazakhstan seek stronger trade and investment ties

The Morocco Kazakhstan trade relations agenda gained momentum following talks in Rabat between Morocco’s Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, and Kazakhstan’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Alibek Kuantyrov. Both sides expressed a shared commitment to expanding bilateral trade, encouraging investment flows, and creating direct commercial channels between the two countries.

Kuantyrov described Morocco as a strategic partner and highlighted Kazakhstan’s interest in importing Moroccan products without relying on intermediaries. The initiative aims to facilitate access for Moroccan goods to the Kazakh market while strengthening commercial links between businesses in both countries.

Kazakhstan is also seeking to increase exports to Morocco. Wheat, cereals, manufactured products, and other goods are among the sectors identified as having strong potential to support growing bilateral exchanges. The move reflects efforts by both governments to build a more balanced and diversified economic partnership.

For Morocco, the partnership offers opportunities to secure access to resources considered important for national supply chains. Ryad Mezzour noted that Kazakhstan possesses assets that could help meet Moroccan demand in key sectors, particularly energy and food. Natural gas, cereals, and meat products were identified as areas where increased imports could contribute to supply diversification and reinforce food security.

The Moroccan minister also emphasized that stronger imports from Kazakhstan could help support domestic market supply and ease pressure on consumer spending by improving access to essential products.

The discussions further focused on the need to rebalance trade flows between Rabat and Astana. Officials from both countries agreed on the importance of identifying sectors with the highest economic potential while promoting exchanges of expertise, industrial know-how, and business experience.

A key mechanism for advancing these objectives will be the first session of the bilateral joint commission. The institutional framework is expected to provide greater structure to industrial and commercial cooperation and help transform political commitments into tangible economic projects.

Both governments also stressed the importance of bringing Moroccan and Kazakh business communities closer together. Increased interaction between companies is expected to generate new investment opportunities, support partnerships, and expand cooperation into additional sectors.

Beyond economics, Kuantyrov pointed to converging positions between Morocco and Kazakhstan on several international issues and highlighted the mutual support maintained by the two countries on the diplomatic stage.

The visit of the Kazakh delegation reflects a broader determination in Rabat and Astana to give fresh momentum to bilateral relations. By promoting direct trade, diversified supply chains, and stronger investment cooperation, both countries are seeking to establish a more durable and mutually beneficial economic partnership.
