Moroccan midfielder Ismael Saibari was forced off with an ankle injury on Saturday, Oct. 31, after colliding with goalkeeper Gregor Kobel during Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga meeting with Borussia Dortmund.

Saibari had started the matchday-eight Klassiker. He was played through one-on-one with the Swiss goalkeeper and was well placed to open the scoring, but his effort did not go in. In the same action, he ran into Kobel and hurt his ankle.

The contact left Saibari on the ground. He then walked off with a heavy limp, unable to put weight on the foot.

The timing is a worry for Bayern Munich and for the national team. Morocco face Niger on Nov. 13 and Nov. 17 in the Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifiers, less than two weeks away.

Head coach Mohamed Ouahbi is due to name his squad on Wednesday, Nov. 4. He is already without Azzedine Ounahi, who recently underwent surgery for a complete rupture of the right hamstring (biceps femoris) tendon.

Further medical tests are expected to establish the nature and severity of Saibari’s injury.
