Ethiopian Airlines has begun flying to Nacala, adding the northern Mozambican port city to its network with a new passenger service operating three times a week, the carrier said in a statement on Tuesday, October 27.

Nacala is now the airline’s third destination in Mozambique, after Maputo and Beira. The first flight departed Addis Ababa Bole International Airport (ADD) following a ceremony attended by senior government officials, stakeholders and company executives.

The airline described Nacala as a coastal destination that serves as a gateway to the tourism attractions and economic opportunities of northern Mozambique.

Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mesfin Tasew said the launch reinforced the company’s presence in the country.

“This new service further strengthens our footprint in Mozambique, making Nacala the third destination in the country served by Ethiopian Airlines,” he said.

Tasew added that the airline remained committed to linking every part of Africa with the rest of the world, presenting the route as a step toward strengthening socio-economic ties between Ethiopia and Mozambique.

The carrier said the new connection is expected to deepen economic, commercial and diplomatic links between Mozambique and the wider world, giving investors, business travellers, tourists and development partners easier access to the region.

Ethiopian Airlines serves more than 65 destinations across Africa through its hub in Addis Ababa.
