Abdelghani Azzi appointed interim director of ONSSA
The Office National de Sécurité Sanitaire des Produits Alimentaires (ONSSA) has appointed veterinarian Abdelghani Azzi as interim director general. His appointment took effect on August 10, 2026, following the retirement of Abdallah Janati.
Azzi graduated as a veterinarian from the Hassan II Agronomic and Veterinary Institute (IAV) in Rabat, where he ranked first in his class. He earned his veterinary doctorate in 1994 with the congratulations of the examination panel.
He also holds an advanced veterinary studies certificate in veterinary public health from the École nationale des services vétérinaires in Lyon. According to ONSSA, Azzi has more than 30 years of professional experience within public institutions.
The appointment follows Janati’s retirement after leading the agency. ONSSA credited Janati with contributing to the strengthening and modernization of Morocco’s national food safety system.
Azzi will temporarily lead an institution responsible for food safety as well as animal and plant health in Morocco.
