Rabat to host Arab Electricity Union congress on energy transition

The Arab Electricity Union congress will take place in Rabat from March 23 to 25, 2027, bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, experts and electricity sector stakeholders from 19 Arab countries. The event is jointly organized by the Office National de l’Électricité et de l’Eau Potable (ONEE) and the Arab Electricity Union, reinforcing Morocco’s growing role in regional energy cooperation.

Held under the theme “The future of electrical systems in the Arab countries,” the congress will focus on the major transformations reshaping the electricity sector. Discussions will address the resilience and security of power grids in the face of economic and climate challenges, as well as the growing role of digitalization and artificial intelligence in improving electricity infrastructure.

Participants will also examine the large-scale integration of renewable energy into national grids and the modernization of transmission and distribution networks needed to support major green energy projects. Energy storage technologies will receive significant attention as countries seek greater flexibility and reliability while accelerating their energy transition strategies.

Another key area of the program will focus on workforce development and the promotion of specialized media covering the electricity sector. Organizers aim to encourage knowledge sharing, innovation and stronger regional partnerships to build more efficient and resilient electrical systems across the Arab world.

Hosting the ninth edition of the congress reflects Morocco’s strategic position as an energy hub connecting Africa, Europe and the Arab region. According to ONEE, the gathering represents a shared commitment to advancing sustainable electricity systems by strengthening cooperation in energy transition, digital technologies and storage solutions.

Alongside the conference sessions, an international exhibition will bring together manufacturers, utilities, equipment suppliers and technology providers specializing in electricity generation, transmission and distribution. The exhibition is designed to showcase innovation while creating new commercial and technological partnerships among companies and institutions operating across the Arab region.
