Morocco has been ranked 72nd in the Energy Transition Index 2026 published by the World Economic Forum. The country placed sixth in the Middle East and North Africa region and fifth in Africa.<\/p>\n
Morocco recorded an overall score of 54.5 points. Its system performance score reached 58.4, while its transition readiness score stood at 48.6. The index assesses 120 countries based on energy security, affordability, sustainability, and readiness for long term transformation.<\/p>\n
The report shows that Morocco performed better than several regional peers. These include Egypt at 84th, Algeria at 94th, Nigeria at 80th, and Kuwait at 102nd. It ranked behind the United Arab Emirates at 49th, Namibia at 61st, Tunisia at 62nd, Jordan at 67th, and South Africa at 69th.<\/p>\n
The World Economic Forum noted a slowdown in global energy transition progress in 2026. The MENAP region recorded a 0.9 percent decline in overall performance. The decline reflects weaker system performance and reduced readiness across several countries.<\/p>\n
Saudi Arabia ranked 55th with a score of 57.4. The report highlighted improvements driven by financial support, renewable energy deployment, and investment in battery storage infrastructure.<\/p>\n
Sweden retained first place globally with a score of 75.3. Finland and Denmark followed. Advanced economies continued to dominate the top rankings, with 14 countries in the top 20. China ranked 14th as the leading emerging economy, followed by Brazil at 17th and the United States at 19th.<\/p>\n
The report stated that 67 countries improved their scores while 53 recorded declines. It identified rising financing costs, policy uncertainty, geopolitical tensions, and infrastructure constraints as key barriers to progress.<\/p>\n
