LG Electronics has introduced a line of smart home accessories developed jointly with Apple for the Apple Home collection. The South Korean group announced the range in a statement dated Casablanca, Oct. 19.

The range covers indoor and outdoor cameras, a video doorbell, a connected lock, a smart thermostat and a temperature sensor. LG said the products are designed to make daily life at home simpler while protecting privacy within the Apple Home ecosystem.

LG and Apple will roll out the full range in the United States and Canada from December, with some additional accessories planned for early next year. The devices work with both the Apple Home and LG ThinQ apps. In the United Kingdom, the indoor and outdoor cameras and the video doorbell go on sale from December. The statement gives no date for other markets.

The two companies said they worked together on hardware, software and user experience from the earliest design stages, rather than simply making existing devices compatible. In one example given by LG, a single “Good Morning” scene triggered through the Home app or Siri can adjust the thermostat and tilt an indoor camera downwards while the user gets ready for the day. Every accessory uses end-to-end encryption within Apple Home, so only the household and the people it authorises can access home data.

“To create a truly connected home, you need products that can work together harmoniously,” said Kihyun Jung, head of the Platform Business Center in LG’s Home Appliance Solution division.

Matthew Costello, vice president of hardware engineering at Apple, said the company had always focused on products that protect users’ privacy, which he described as more important than ever at home. Combining Apple’s hardware and software expertise with LG’s knowledge of the home would produce smart home experiences that are easier to set up and control, he added.

The cameras record video at up to 2.5K resolution and offer colour night vision in low light. They can recognise people, pets, vehicles and motion to cut down on unnecessary notifications. Users can mask parts of the frame so those areas are neither viewed nor recorded, and built-in local storage gives them control over how footage is kept.

The LG Indoor Cam Plug-In has a 160° field of view, a privacy tilt mechanism and physical controls to switch off monitoring. The LG Outdoor Cam Plug-In pairs 2.5K resolution with colour night vision. The LG Floodlight Cam carries two adaptive floodlights that switch on automatically when activity is detected.

The LG Video Doorbell Wired combines a 2.5K front camera with a Full HD lower camera to capture visitors, parcels and the area around the entrance. It can identify people, vehicles, pets and parcels, sound a chime through Apple HomeView, HomePod or HomePod mini, and supports two-way audio.

The LG Smart Deadbolt Lock offers hands-free unlocking with Home Key on a compatible iPhone or Apple Watch, using Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology.

LG Electronics said in a statement it has developed smart home accessories with Apple for Apple Home, including cameras, a video doorbell and a lock.

[16
5676,5677,5678
post-6267","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-technology","tag-apple-home","tag-lg-thinq","tag-kihyun-jung

 Cameras up to 2.5K
