Royal Air Maroc has expanded its fleet to a record 69 aircraft after receiving a new Boeing 737 MAX 8 registered CN-RHR. The aircraft arrived in Casablanca on August 27 and marks the 18th 737 MAX 8 to enter service with the Moroccan carrier as it continues a broader fleet expansion program.<\/p>\n
The latest delivery brings the number of Boeing single aisle aircraft operated by Royal Air Maroc to 45, including aircraft operated by its regional subsidiary RAM Express, according to Moroccan outlet Le360. The 737 MAX 8 has become a central part of the airline\u2019s medium haul operations, serving routes to Europe, West Africa and the Middle East while providing improved cabin comfort.<\/p>\n
The delivery forms part of a wider expansion plan under which Royal Air Maroc aims to integrate an average of 10 to 15 aircraft each year. Oussama El Farisi, the airline\u2019s Head of Engineering, told Le360 that every aircraft undergoes a technical process designed to meet international requirements and the company\u2019s own standards.<\/p>\n
The fleet buildup follows a contract program signed between the Moroccan state and Royal Air Maroc in July 2023. The agreement targets an increase in the carrier\u2019s fleet to 200 aircraft by 2037 while strengthening Casablanca as an air hub and expanding its international network.<\/p>\n
The carrier\u2019s expansion is taking place as Boeing faces production difficulties, supply chain pressure and certification delays affecting parts of its 737 MAX program. Reuters reported in July that Boeing was approaching regulatory approval for a modification to the MAX engine anti ice system, a requirement linked to delayed deliveries of the MAX 7 and MAX 10.<\/p>\n
Against that backdrop, Royal Air Maroc has sought to accelerate aircraft deliveries. The airline\u2019s management previously persuaded Boeing to bring forward two aircraft originally scheduled for delivery in 2026 to 2025.<\/p>\n
These interim deliveries are intended to help bridge the period before a much larger aircraft order begins arriving. In April 2024, Royal Air Maroc launched a tender for up to 200 new aircraft, inviting Boeing, Airbus, Embraer and ATR to participate.<\/p>\n
Bloomberg reported in June 2025 that the Boeing component of the potential order could include up to 50 Boeing 737 aircraft for short and medium haul operations and around 20 Boeing 787 Dreamliners for long haul services. First deliveries were expected from 2028.<\/p>\n
Until the main order arrives, Royal Air Maroc is also relying on leased aircraft to expand its capacity. Reuters reported in November 2025 that the airline planned to take up to 13 leased aircraft each year while awaiting the main order, followed by roughly 15 new deliveries annually from 2028.<\/p>\n
The expansion supports a rapidly growing international network. In recent months, Royal Air Maroc has launched direct connections to Beijing, S\u00e3o Paulo, Los Angeles, Saint Petersburg, Manchester and N\u2019Djamena.<\/p>\n
The airline is also pursuing changes to the passenger experience alongside its fleet expansion. On August 4, Royal Air Maroc concluded an agreement with Starlink, the satellite internet arm of Elon Musk\u2019s SpaceX, to equip its entire fleet with onboard Wi-Fi. The rollout will take place in stages and is expected to reach full capacity in 2027.<\/p>\n
