The Ceuta crisis<\/strong> should not be blamed solely on Morocco’s government, according to Driss Lachgar, First Secretary of the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP). Speaking during the party’s expanded regional council meeting in Oujda, Lachgar argued that all political actors share responsibility for the recent mass migration toward the occupied enclave and warned against using the tragedy for partisan purposes.<\/p>\n

Lachgar rejected what he described as attempts to exploit the suffering of migrants and the loss of lives at sea for political gain. He said it would be easy to issue a statement holding the current government entirely responsible but insisted that such an approach would overlook the broader political and social factors behind the crisis.<\/p>\n

He stressed that Morocco has experienced similar maritime migration tragedies over several decades and said every political institution bears part of the responsibility for addressing the conditions that continue to drive irregular migration.<\/p>\n

Lachgar nevertheless criticized the government’s communication during the crisis. He said the absence of timely public statements from the head of government, the government spokesperson, local authorities, and elected officials created an information vacuum at a critical moment.<\/p>\n

According to the USFP leader, the lack of official communication forced many Moroccans and the families of victims to rely on foreign media for information. He argued that faster and more transparent institutional communication could have reduced confusion and strengthened public confidence.<\/p>\n

Lachgar also explained that his party deliberately chose not to release what he described as emotional political statements. Instead, he said the USFP held consultations with European socialist and left-wing parties to defend Morocco’s position and interests internationally.<\/p>\n

He concluded that political leaders should focus on honoring the victims and addressing the structural causes of irregular migration rather than exchanging accusations. He also warned that rising violence, racism, and far-right political discourse in parts of Europe could have consequences for the more than five million Moroccans living abroad, calling on political institutions to defend their rights and security.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
