Morocco\u2019s Justice and Development Party (PJD) has called for the establishment of a national commission of inquiry, under royal instructions, to investigate the Ceuta mass migration<\/strong> that saw thousands of people attempt to reach the occupied enclave from northern Morocco.<\/p>\n

The appeal was made in a statement issued after an extraordinary meeting of the party\u2019s General Secretariat on Saturday. Although the meeting had initially been scheduled to address electoral matters, it was redirected to examine the events that unfolded in the cities of M\u2019diq and Fnideq following the large-scale migration attempts.<\/p>\n

The party expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives during the incident, describing the events as tragic and expressing sympathy for the victims and their relatives.<\/p>\n

The PJD urged authorities to conduct a transparent national investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, determine responsibilities, and publish the findings. The party said the inquiry should also contribute to identifying practical solutions to the social, economic, developmental, and democratic challenges that continue to drive many young Moroccans to pursue irregular migration.<\/p>\n

While calling for accountability, the party cautioned against drawing premature conclusions about the causes of the migration. It also reaffirmed its support for Morocco\u2019s monarchy, highlighting the constitutional and strategic role of King Mohammed VI in preserving national stability, unity, and institutional continuity.<\/p>\n

The party criticized the government’s handling of the aftermath, accusing it of failing to communicate effectively with the public. It also argued that public media did not provide sufficient coverage of the developments, leaving many Moroccans to rely on foreign news outlets for information.<\/p>\n

According to the statement, the events exposed persistent structural challenges despite the country’s progress in infrastructure and development. The PJD pointed to unemployment, widening social inequalities, and declining public confidence in state institutions as key factors encouraging young people to risk dangerous migration attempts.<\/p>\n

The party also warned that growing social discontent and recurring protests should prompt policymakers to reassess current governance strategies. It called for reforms aimed at strengthening democratic institutions, improving public services, expanding employment opportunities, and rebuilding citizens’ trust in public institutions.<\/p>\n
