Recent developments in the Ceuta migrant crisis<\/strong> show that more than 37,500 migrants have returned to Morocco after entering the Spanish enclave during an unprecedented surge in irregular migration, according to Spain’s Interior Ministry. Spanish authorities said the returnees represent about 75% of those who crossed into Ceuta over the past several days.<\/p>\n

Spanish officials estimate that approximately 60,000 people entered the enclave in a single day, making it one of the largest migration waves recorded at the border between Morocco and Spain.<\/p>\n

The humanitarian toll has continued to increase. Authorities estimate that at least 57 people died while attempting to reach the enclave. Officials cautioned that the figure remains provisional because tens of thousands of people attempted the crossing during several consecutive days, with the highest numbers recorded over the weekend and between Wednesday and Friday.<\/p>\n

Spain and Morocco have intensified coordination to address the crisis. Madrid announced that it had reached an agreement with Rabat to facilitate the return of migrants who entered Ceuta. Spanish authorities also thanked Morocco for its cooperation while describing the mass crossings as a violation of Spanish territory.<\/p>\n

The events in Ceuta have also triggered political divisions across Europe. While several countries expressed support for Spain’s response, others raised the possibility of suspending Spain from the Schengen Area, reflecting broader disagreements over the management of the crisis.<\/p>\n

European Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration Magnus Brunner said there is no evidence that migrants arriving in Ceuta are moving onward to mainland Europe or to other European Union member states.<\/p>\n

Brunner described the situation in the enclave as unacceptable and said the European Commission remains in close contact with the Spanish authorities. He reiterated that no secondary movements toward the European continent or other member states have been detected.<\/p>\n
