Xiaomi has introduced its new SkyNomad SUV<\/strong> series in Beijing, marking the Chinese technology company’s entry into the extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) segment. The launch targets the growing family SUV market as Xiaomi seeks to accelerate vehicle sales after reaching only about one-third of its annual delivery target during the first half of the year.<\/p>\n

The lineup includes the flagship seven-seat N90 Max, priced at 299,900 yuan, and the five-seat N70 Max at 259,900 yuan. Both are premium Max variants, while more affordable Pro and standard versions will arrive when the vehicles officially launch in September.<\/p>\n

Chief Executive Lei Jun said the new platform was designed to offer greater flexibility for families. The N90 Max measures 5,285 mm in length and features a 3,080 mm wheelbase. It is built on Xiaomi’s Kunlun platform, developed over three and a half years specifically for large modular SUVs.<\/p>\n

The interior emphasizes versatility. Front seats rotate 180 degrees, allowing a lounge-style cabin layout with a sliding center table. Second-row passengers benefit from zero-gravity seats equipped with 16-point massage functions. Xiaomi also introduced a Camping Edition featuring a pop-up roof, rooftop sleeping platform, and integrated tent mounting points.<\/p>\n

The SkyNomad models use a series EREV powertrain. A turbocharged 1.5-liter Dongan gasoline engine operates solely as a generator and never powers the wheels directly. Combined with a 76 kWh nickel manganese cobalt battery and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing 310 kW, the N90 Max delivers up to 464 km of all-electric driving and a combined range of 1,705 km using a full 60-liter fuel tank.<\/p>\n

The N70 Max offers a CLTC-rated electric range of 505 km, which Lei Jun described as the highest among mass-produced extended-range electric vehicles. Xiaomi said the vehicle exceeds the range of the Leapmotor D19 despite using a smaller battery than its rival. Fast DC charging replenishes the battery from 20 percent to 80 percent in less than 18 minutes.<\/p>\n

The launch represents a significant strategic shift for Xiaomi. In 2024, the company had described extended-range electric vehicles as the wrong technological direction. It now argues that the technology is the most practical solution for large SUVs, where a fully electric configuration would require an excessively heavy battery.<\/p>\n

The new models also reflect Xiaomi’s effort to strengthen its position in China’s competitive electric vehicle market. While cumulative deliveries of the SU7 and YU7 have surpassed 700,000 units, first-half electric vehicle sales remained below expectations. The N90 Max enters the market with a starting price below Tesla’s Model Y L in China.<\/p>\n

Pre-orders opened immediately with a refundable 1,000 yuan deposit. Customer deliveries are scheduled to begin in September, while Xiaomi expects the SkyNomad range to reach European markets during the second half of 2027.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
