Despite the decline, both benchmark contracts remained on track to post monthly gains of roughly 20%, reflecting continued concerns over global energy supplies.

The Strait of Hormuz normally handles about one-fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas shipments, making it one of the most important energy transit routes.

The Commonwealth Bank of Australia said in a research note that crude shipments through the strait had recovered to about 30% to 35% of pre-conflict levels. The bank added that a recovery to between 50% and 60% of normal traffic could be enough to restore a global oil surplus and ease pressure on prices.

US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said about 6.5 million barrels of oil per day passed through the strait during the past week under US military escort. Speaking to Bloomberg Radio, he said the United States was using military forces to help ensure the movement of oil and gas shipments through the strategic waterway.

Shipping data from Kpler, cited by Bloomberg, showed that 14 commercial vessels crossed the strait in both directions on Wednesday, compared with only a handful during the previous week. However, Kpler warned that confirmed sailing clearances remained close to recent lows and that maritime security risks, rising war insurance costs, and Iranian interceptions continued to limit a broader recovery.

Analysts cautioned that supply risks remain elevated despite the recent decline in oil prices. Mirae Asset said OECD countries drew about 700 million barrels from strategic petroleum reserves between March and June, reducing their ability to respond to a prolonged disruption.

JPMorgan estimated that every additional month of supply disruption could increase Brent prices by $7 to $8 a barrel. Goldman Sachs warned that Brent could climb to $120 a barrel if shipping disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz continue.

Investors also monitored political developments after US President Donald Trump called for tariffs targeting Iran to be included in bipartisan sanctions legislation against Tehran and Russia. At the same time, the Houthi movement announced a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia, raising fresh concerns about shipping routes in the Red Sea.

Daniel Hynes, senior commodity analyst at ANZ, said crude prices were easing as renewed Middle East tensions were partly offset by signs that tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz was gradually recovering. He added that flows remained well below pre-conflict levels, meaning underlying supply risks had not disappeared.

[5
2527,4568,4569,4491,2528
post-4798","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-economie","tag-brent-crude","tag-global-oil-supply","tag-middle-east-tensions","tag-oil-prices","tag-strait-of-hormuz
["GET
