Morocco has reinforced its position as Morocco fresh produce exports<\/strong> leader to Spain, remaining the country’s largest non-EU supplier of fresh fruit and vegetables during the first four months of 2026.<\/p>\n

According to Spain’s Department of Customs and Excise, Spain imported 232,993 tonnes of fresh fruit and vegetables from Morocco between January and April 2026. The figures, analyzed by the Spanish Federation of Associations of Producers-Exporters of Fruits, Vegetables, Flowers and Live Plants (FEPEX), confirm Morocco’s leading position among suppliers outside the European Union.<\/p>\n

The imports were valued at \u20ac710 million, representing nearly 26% of Spain’s non-EU fresh produce imports by volume and almost 47% by value. The figures also show that the value of Moroccan exports increased by 5.6% compared with the same period in 2025.<\/p>\n

The stronger growth in export value compared with overall import volumes highlights sustained demand for Moroccan produce. It also reflects favorable market prices and the growing presence of higher-value agricultural products in Spanish distribution channels.<\/p>\n

Morocco’s competitive position is supported by its geographic proximity to Spain, year-round agricultural production, and continued improvements in transport and logistics. Investments in cold-chain facilities, greenhouse farming, and export infrastructure have strengthened the country’s ability to supply European markets consistently throughout the year.<\/p>\n

Tomatoes remain Morocco’s leading export to Spain, followed by peppers, berries, avocados, green beans, and other fresh products. Many of these products are sold through Spanish retailers before being redistributed to other European markets.<\/p>\n

The export performance also reflects Morocco’s broader modernization of its agricultural sector. Despite ongoing challenges linked to drought and water scarcity, investment in production technology and supply chain efficiency has helped maintain the country’s competitiveness in international markets.<\/p>\n

The latest trade figures also underline the growing importance of non-EU suppliers in Spain’s food imports. Countries outside the European Union now account for 72% of the total value of Spain’s fresh produce imports while representing 52% of total import volumes, highlighting the increasing economic value of products supplied by Morocco and other non-EU partners.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
