Morocco Day, an initiative linked to the Moroccan American Network based in Alexandria, Virginia, will collaborate with Boubker Mazoz, president of the IDMAJ Foundation for Development and Sister Cities International’s representative in Morocco.

A central focus of the initiative is the long standing partnership between Chicago and Casablanca, which marks its 45th anniversary this year. The relationship supports cooperation in business networking, tourism, investment, education, cultural exchange, and innovation. Mazoz has played a key role in developing this partnership and has overseen youth exchange programs connecting Moroccan and American communities.

The announcement forms part of preparations for the 10th anniversary celebration of Morocco Day, scheduled for October 31 in Alexandria, Virginia. The event will showcase existing and emerging sister city partnerships, including Washington and Rabat, Alexandria and Salé, Chicago and Casablanca, Tacoma and El Jadida, Council Bluffs and El Hajeb, Somerville and Tiznit, Scottsdale and Marrakech, Miami and Agadir, and the Bronx and Sidi Moumen in Casablanca.

Morocco Day founder Mohamed Elhajjam said the initiative reflects the organization’s mission to build lasting connections between Morocco and the United States. He emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation through business, education, culture, and public diplomacy while raising awareness of the Chicago Casablanca partnership.

The anniversary event is expected to bring together government officials, diplomats, business leaders, entrepreneurs, nonprofit organizations, and community representatives from both countries. Organizers hope the gathering will encourage new collaborations and investment opportunities ahead of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco will co host with Spain and Portugal.

The initiative also draws on the longstanding relationship between Morocco and the United States. Morocco became the first country to recognize American independence in 1777 under Sultan Mohammed ben Abdallah, who opened Moroccan ports to American ships. The two nations later signed the Treaty of Peace and Friendship in 1786, considered the longest uninterrupted diplomatic relationship in US history.

Organizers believe these historical ties provide a strong foundation for expanding local partnerships and strengthening people to people relations as both countries prepare for future economic and cultural cooperation.

Morocco Day has launched a new initiative aimed at strengthening US Morocco sister city partnerships…

[9
3622,3623,3624,3621,3625
post-3663","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-politics","tag-chicago-casablanca-partnership","tag-morocco-day-anniversary","tag-sister-city-exchanges","tag-us-morocco-partnerships","tag-us-morocco-relations
["GET
