In Morocco, the event served as a national platform for dialogue between stakeholders involved in education, vocational training, employment and development.

The opening session brought together senior officials and international partners, including Wafa Asri, secretary general of the Ministry of Economic Inclusion representing Minister Younes Sekkouri, UNESCO Regional Director for the Maghreb Charaf Ahmimed, Portuguese Ambassador Luis Faro Ramos, and World Bank Country Director for the Maghreb and Malta Ahmadou Moustapha Ndiaye. Representatives from the European Union and the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises also participated.

Discussions focused on the rapid transformation of labor markets, the emergence of new skills linked to digital and green transitions, and the growing importance of lifelong learning. Participants examined how education systems and vocational training programs can better prepare young people for evolving economic realities.

The exchanges followed recommendations outlined in UNESCO’s regional report, “Learning Today, Building Tomorrow: Excellence and Equity Through Youth Skills.” The report emphasizes the need to align training systems with emerging economic demands and strengthen links between education, vocational training and employers.

Representatives from the Higher Council for Education, Training and Scientific Research, the Department of Vocational Training, the Digital Development Agency and Mohammed V University of Rabat joined discussions alongside international organizations including UNICEF, the International Labour Organization and the French Development Agency. Private sector stakeholders such as HP Morocco and the WorldSkills Champions Trust also contributed to the dialogue.

Speakers stressed the importance of creating more inclusive learning pathways that are closely connected to the needs of businesses and local economies. Partnerships between public authorities, educational institutions, private companies and international organizations were identified as essential for improving employment outcomes.

According to Charaf Ahmimed, young people must be recognized as key contributors to ongoing economic transformation. He highlighted Morocco’s progress in vocational training, particularly through the deployment of the Cities of Trades and Skills initiative, designed to align training opportunities with regional economic priorities and emerging industries.

Ahmimed also pointed to efforts to integrate digital and environmental competencies into training programs. These reforms aim to equip future workers with skills required by new industries while meeting international standards and labor market expectations.

UNESCO emphasized that public policies should go beyond employment indicators and take into account the individual aspirations, talents and career paths of young people. Better identification, support and recognition of these competencies are viewed as essential to improving workforce integration and strengthening national competitiveness.

The event took place as Morocco continues reforms aimed at modernizing vocational education, developing human capital and narrowing the gap between training systems and labor market needs. With youth representing a major driver of economic growth and innovation, skills development remains a strategic priority for the country’s long-term development agenda.

Youth employability was at the center of discussions during Morocco’s celebration of World Youth Skills…

[25
3490,264,3491,3489
post-3519","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-youth","tag-employability","tag-morocco","tag-skills","tag-youth
["GET
