Israel placed its military on heightened alert on Sunday after Iranian missiles triggered air raid warnings near its southern border, raising concerns of a wider regional confrontation as the conflict involving the United States and Iran intensified. The interception of Iranian missiles near Israel’s frontier prompted senior Israeli officials to warn that any direct attack from Tehran would be met with a powerful response.<\/p>\n
Israeli and Jordanian air defense systems intercepted missiles launched toward Aqaba, the Jordanian port city located across the border from the Israeli city of Eilat. Jordan’s military said three of four Iranian missiles aimed at the kingdom were intercepted, while the fourth landed in a remote desert area in southern Jordan without causing casualties.<\/p>\n
According to reports, debris from the interceptions fell inside Israeli territory. No injuries were reported. The incident nevertheless heightened tensions along Israel’s southern border and reinforced concerns about the possibility of direct military escalation between Israel and Iran.<\/p>\n
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a strong warning during a visit to an emergency response center. He said Israel would strike Iran “with all its force” if Iranian missiles were launched directly at the country. Katz added that Israel remained prepared for both defensive and offensive operations and was closely monitoring developments in US policy toward Tehran.<\/p>\n
Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir echoed the warning, stating that the military would act decisively against any actor attacking Israel. He said the armed forces continued to maintain the capability to conduct operations across multiple fronts simultaneously.<\/p>\n
The developments came as the United States carried out its ninth consecutive night of military strikes against Iranian targets. US Central Command said the latest operations targeted military command centers, air defense sites, maritime capabilities and communication networks.<\/p>\n
The American strikes followed an Iranian attack in Jordan that killed two US service members on Friday. A third soldier remains missing. The latest fatalities bring the total number of US military personnel killed since the conflict began nearly five months ago to at least 15.<\/p>\n
At the same time, reports indicated that Washington could be preparing for broader military action. The Trump administration reportedly informed Israel that dozens of additional aerial refueling aircraft were being deployed as military planners assessed possible options for expanding operations against Iran.<\/p>\n
Israeli media reported that dozens of US tanker aircraft were already stationed in Israel, with additional arrivals expected daily. The increased military presence has fueled speculation that both Washington and Jerusalem are preparing contingency plans should the conflict continue to escalate.<\/p>\n
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly told officials that Israel was maintaining the highest level of readiness and could resume large-scale military operations against Iran if circumstances required. Katz had previously warned that a direct war with Iran could erupt at any moment and said the Israeli military had already selected potential targets inside Iran pending political authorization.<\/p>\n
