Moroccan organizations have improved their digital and cybersecurity maturity in 2026, according to findings from the AUSIM\u00e8tre 2026. The overall cyber maturity index rose from 49% to 56%, moving Morocco from the \u201cDeveloping\u201d stage to the \u201cDefined\u201d stage. However, the report highlights significant disparities between organizations, with talent shortages, cloud dependency, and SME vulnerabilities continuing to hinder progress.<\/p>\n
Mohamed Saad, president of the Association des utilisateurs des syst\u00e8mes d\u2019information au Maroc (AUSIM), said the latest findings reveal both positive momentum and persistent structural challenges. While management practices and cybersecurity budgets have improved, indicators related to digital sovereignty and talent remain weak, reaching 35% and 48% respectively.<\/p>\n
The study also points to uneven progress across the Moroccan economy. Large organizations continue to strengthen their cybersecurity capabilities, while many SMEs lag behind in awareness, equipment, and regulatory compliance.<\/p>\n
A major change identified in the 2026 edition is the evolving motivation behind cybersecurity investments. In 2025, regulatory compliance was the primary driver for 72% of organizations. In 2026, that figure fell to 44%, indicating that compliance requirements are becoming more established.<\/p>\n
At the same time, data protection emerged as the leading priority for 67% of organizations after increasing by 35 percentage points. Companies are increasingly focusing on safeguarding critical assets and ensuring business continuity rather than simply meeting regulatory obligations.<\/p>\n
Executive involvement has also increased significantly. The share of organizations reporting direct engagement from senior management rose from 55% to 74% within a year. Financial commitment has followed a similar trend, with 56% of companies allocating more than 5% of their IT budgets to cybersecurity.<\/p>\n
Despite this progress, governance challenges remain. Only 45% of organizations have formally documented their cyber risk appetite.<\/p>\n
The AUSIM\u00e8tre 2026 highlights a growing divide between advanced organizations and those facing substantial cybersecurity weaknesses. According to the report, 37% of companies dedicate more than 7% of their IT budgets to cybersecurity, while 30% remain highly vulnerable due to spending below 3% or the absence of a clearly identified cybersecurity budget.<\/p>\n
This vulnerable segment is largely composed of SMEs, which face financial constraints and struggle to recruit specialized cybersecurity professionals.<\/p>\n
The role of technology leaders is also evolving. The report notes that 61% of cybersecurity leaders now report directly to executive management rather than IT departments, reflecting the growing strategic importance of cyber resilience within organizations.<\/p>\n
Digital sovereignty emerged as one of the most pressing issues identified in the study. Around 60% of Moroccan companies report medium to high dependence on global cloud providers.<\/p>\n
More significantly, 70% of organizations do not have a formal cloud reversibility strategy. Among them, 38% have no strategy at all, while 32% are still developing one.<\/p>\n
Saad stressed that digital sovereignty does not require rejecting global innovation or cloud services. Instead, it involves maintaining the technical and contractual ability to change providers without disrupting business operations.<\/p>\n
The report identifies talent shortages as a major challenge, with 84% of organizations citing difficulties in finding qualified professionals. AUSIM argues that stronger collaboration between universities and businesses is needed to create reskilling programs and expand cybersecurity expertise.<\/p>\n
The organization also calls for greater attention to artificial intelligence governance. While 87% of companies view AI as a valuable tool, only 30% have established formal usage policies.<\/p>\n
For 2026 and 2027, AUSIM recommends three priority actions: strengthening AI governance frameworks, implementing cloud reversibility plans, and preparing for future quantum computing risks. The report warns that many organizations underestimate the long term cybersecurity implications of quantum technologies, with 64% currently overlooking the threat.<\/p>\n
According to AUSIM, the AUSIM\u00e8tre is intended to serve as a strategic decision making tool for policymakers and stakeholders involved in the Morocco Digital 2030 agenda, helping identify priorities in talent development, cloud infrastructure, and digital resilience.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
