Agadir strengthened its position as a leading tourism destination during the first half of 2026, recording more than 732,000 visitors and 3.145 million overnight stays as demand for higher end accommodation continued to rise. The destination posted growth of 5.56% in arrivals and 8.54% in overnight stays compared with the same period in 2025.<\/p>\n

Between January and June, 732,372 tourists visited Agadir, generating 3.145 million overnight stays. The average length of stay increased from 4.18 days to 4.29 days, supporting stronger hotel sector performance.<\/p>\n
A key factor behind this growth was the expansion of the premium hospitality segment. The opening of the Grand Dominium and the Marriott Resort Taghazout Bay responded to growing demand for upscale accommodation and contributed to the destination’s improved performance.<\/p>\n
Five star hotels emerged as the strongest performers during the period. Arrivals in this category increased by 32.05%, exceeding 203,000 visitors, while overnight stays rose by 34.90%.<\/p>\n
At the same time, holiday villages and hotel clubs experienced a decline of 15.40% in visitor numbers, reflecting a gradual shift in demand toward higher quality tourism services and accommodation.<\/p>\n
The trend also helped improve the average occupancy rate of tourist establishments, which reached 65.83% during the first six months of the year.<\/p>\n
The United Kingdom remained Agadir’s leading international source market. More than 182,000 British visitors traveled to the destination, generating over one million overnight stays. Their average stay extended to 5.69 days.<\/p>\n
The Moroccan market ranked second in terms of arrivals with more than 180,000 visitors, although average stays remained shorter. French visitors recorded a slight decline in arrivals, but overnight stays increased by 6.24%, indicating longer visits. The Polish and German markets also continued to expand.<\/p>\n
Despite a more moderate performance in June, when arrivals rose by 0.76% and overnight stays by 3.06%, industry professionals remain optimistic about the summer peak season.<\/p>\n
They note that sustaining growth will also require renewed momentum in the mid range accommodation segment and tourist villages, which have recently underperformed.<\/p>\n
Agadir’s results highlight a broader shift in tourism demand toward longer stays and higher value accommodation.
