The Al Moutmir program<\/strong> helped Moroccan farmers increase cereal yields by up to 26% and legume yields by as much as 42% during the 2025\u20132026 agricultural season, according to results presented at the 20th edition of the Al Moutmir Open Innovation Lab held online on July 9.<\/p>\n

Led by Mohammed VI Polytechnic University through its College of Agriculture and supported by the OCP Foundation, the initiative promotes scientific farming methods designed to improve productivity, sustainability, and resilience. The program works in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, the National Office of Agricultural Advisory, and provincial agricultural authorities.<\/p>\n

During the campaign, Al Moutmir deployed 1,152 demonstration platforms across 25 provinces covering eight cereal and legume crops. More than 288 farmers hosted the platforms, while over 9,400 farmers received training through field schools, workshops, and digital support services.<\/p>\n

The demonstration platforms allow farmers to compare traditional farming practices with optimized technical packages developed by Al Moutmir specialists. These packages combine soil analysis based fertilization, integrated crop protection, efficient water management, and crop specific agricultural recommendations. Soil samples are analyzed in laboratories before customized fertilizer formulas are prepared using Smart Blender technology.<\/p>\n

According to the program, the optimized practices increased crop yields by between 12% and 42%, depending on crop type and growing conditions. Farmers also achieved profit margin gains ranging from 19% to 40% compared with neighboring fields managed under conventional methods.<\/p>\n

Farm level results reflected these improvements. In Beni Mellal, farmer Ahmed Elhiba reported a soft wheat yield of 70.5 quintals per hectare after applying Al Moutmir recommendations, compared with 60 quintals per hectare on a nearby field managed using standard practices. In Settat province, farmer Othmane Essaker increased durum wheat production from 32 to 40 quintals per hectare through a direct seeding demonstration platform supported by soil analysis, customized fertilization, and technical guidance.<\/p>\n

The initiative also expanded its Direct Seeding Program, supporting more than 30,010 hectares across 130 localities in 21 provinces. The program reached over 4,300 farmers and more than 70 professional organizations while operating a fleet of 68 direct seeding machines.<\/p>\n

A total of 548 direct seeding demonstration platforms were established during the season. Results showed yields between 2% and 6% higher than those achieved through conventional tillage. While the yield advantage remained limited during a season with abundant rainfall, Al Moutmir noted that direct seeding provides greater benefits during drought periods by preserving soil moisture and strengthening resilience against climate shocks.<\/p>\n

The season also faced challenges in northwestern Morocco, where heavy rainfall and flooding affected agricultural areas in Kenitra, Sidi Kacem, and Larache. Several demonstration platforms were damaged before harvest, reducing production in some locations.<\/p>\n

Despite these localized losses, the program reported strong national results, supported by favorable rainfall conditions and the adoption of integrated farming practices that improved fertilizer efficiency and crop management.<\/p>\n

Around 100 representatives from public institutions, universities, research organizations, industry partners, farmer associations, and agricultural stakeholders participated in the webinar discussing the findings. The event emphasized the role of scientific research, innovation, and agricultural advisory services in improving productivity and supporting climate adaptation across Morocco\u2019s cereal and legume value chains.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
