Marsa Maroc will invest MAD 3 billion to expand container handling operations at Casablanca port after obtaining a 20 year extension of its concession for Container Terminal 3. The project is designed to support rising cargo traffic and reinforce the role of Casablanca port as Morocco\u2019s main maritime gateway.<\/p>\n
The investment plan will allow Marsa Maroc\u2019s subsidiary, TC3PC, to increase the capacity of Terminal 3 from 600,000 to 900,000 twenty foot equivalent units by 2030. The expansion will also lift the port\u2019s overall container handling capacity to more than 2 million TEUs, making it better equipped to accommodate growing trade volumes.<\/p>\n
The project includes extending quay facilities, modernizing cargo handling equipment, and reorganizing storage areas across the two container terminals operated by the company. Marsa Maroc said these upgrades will improve operational performance and accelerate cargo processing.<\/p>\n
The company stated that the investment forms part of its long term strategy to strengthen the competitiveness of Morocco\u2019s logistics sector and support the country\u2019s expanding international trade.<\/p>\n
The concession extension provides the operator with greater certainty to undertake large scale infrastructure projects and prepare for sustained growth in container traffic over the coming years.<\/p>\n
Separately, Morocco\u2019s National Ports Agency reported a sharp improvement in operations at Casablanca port. The agency said congestion levels have fallen by nearly 50 percent following the introduction of reinforced management measures.<\/p>\n
Casablanca port had experienced significant pressure since December 2025 because of unfavorable weather conditions, increasing cargo volumes, and operational challenges. To address the situation, the agency worked with port operators and local authorities to improve vessel traffic management and cargo handling procedures.<\/p>\n
The measures included closer monitoring of ships waiting offshore and at berths, more efficient allocation of docking spaces, tighter supervision of cargo clearance operations, and stronger coordination with freight receivers to speed up the movement of goods.<\/p>\n
