The Mohammed V airport modernization project<\/strong> is set to transform Morocco\u2019s largest international gateway as the National Airports Office (ONDA) launches a major redevelopment program valued at 300 million dirhams. The initiative aims to upgrade infrastructure, improve passenger circulation, and create a unified architectural identity across Casablanca\u2019s main airport.<\/p>\n

As part of an international architectural competition, ONDA seeks proposals that address the inconsistencies created by successive airport expansions over the years. The project requires the integration of Terminals 1 and 2 into a coherent architectural complex with a consistent design approach.<\/p>\n

Planned works include the complete renovation of Terminal 2 facades on both the city and airside sections. Boarding bridges and structural elements affected by aging and weather conditions will also undergo rehabilitation.<\/p>\n

The modernization program focuses heavily on operational efficiency. Passenger movement throughout the airport will be improved to reduce congestion during peak travel periods. Check in facilities in Terminal 2 will be expanded by utilizing currently unused areas, while the number of service counters will increase.<\/p>\n

Security screening and border control zones will be reorganized to better separate passenger flows between Moroccan passport holders, foreign travelers, and Fast Track users. The objective is to streamline processing times and enhance the overall travel experience.<\/p>\n

Arrival areas and customs facilities will also be upgraded. The project includes a clearer separation between green and red customs channels and the creation of an independent arrivals hall. Airport restrooms will be fully renovated and equipped with smart technologies.<\/p>\n

ONDA also plans to standardize the interior design of shops, restaurants, and kiosks through a common architectural charter. The framework will establish shared standards for materials, colors, signage, and visual integration while allowing businesses to maintain their individual brand identities.<\/p>\n

The redevelopment extends beyond airport buildings. Exterior areas will be reorganized through improved parking layouts, dedicated zones for buses, taxis, and hotel shuttles, as well as landscaped public spaces. New lighting systems will enhance the site’s appearance while avoiding interference with air navigation.<\/p>\n

Accessibility remains a central component of the project. The specifications require full access for people with disabilities and reduced mobility through adapted pathways, Braille signage, audio and visual guidance systems, and dedicated facilities.<\/p>\n

Construction will be carried out in phases to ensure uninterrupted airport operations. Five awards will be granted to the best architectural proposals, including a prize of 150,000 dirhams for the winning design team, which will also oversee the implementation of the modernization program.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
