Epson strengthens investment in Gosan Tech for industrial inkjet systems

Epson has strengthened its investment in Gosan Tech, a South Korean start-up developing industrial manufacturing systems based on inkjet technology. Seiko Epson Corporation and Epson X Investment Corporation recently made an additional investment through the EP-GB L.P. joint fund, reinforcing Epson’s commitment to industrial applications of high-precision inkjet technology.

Founded in 2015, Gosan Tech develops and commercializes inkjet systems for the manufacturing of organic light-emitting diode displays. The company has developed technologies for ink supply, pressure control and process simulation. These technologies support precise droplet deposition and consistent coating performance.

Gosan Tech operates across three main fields. Its information technology activities include OLED display manufacturing and direct marking of components. Its environmental activities focus on inkjet systems for perovskite solar cells. Its biomedical business covers drug deposition, tissue engineering and diagnostic applications.

Perovskite solar cells have attracted growing research and development efforts because of their potential for high energy conversion efficiency. Their thin, lightweight and flexible characteristics also create opportunities for applications that conventional silicon-based solar cells may not easily address.

Inkjet manufacturing can further support the development of these cells by enabling precise control over coating thickness, materials and design patterns. Gosan Tech develops and commercializes perovskite solar cell modules and manufacturing systems based on this approach. The technology is designed to support high-quality thin-film formation, improve material use and provide greater flexibility in production.

Epson first invested in Gosan Tech in April 2025 as a partner in the company’s printhead business. Since then, Epson and its South Korean sales and service subsidiary, Epson Korea Co., Ltd., have supported Gosan Tech’s expansion by supplying high-precision printheads designed for industrial applications.

During this period, Gosan Tech recorded steady business growth. Its progress included improvements in the energy conversion efficiency of its perovskite solar cell modules, increased production capacity for inkjet manufacturing systems and new orders for mass production.

The additional investment will allow Epson and Gosan Tech to work together to expand the market for inkjet-based manufacturing systems for perovskite solar cell modules. The partnership also gives Epson an opportunity to extend the industrial use of its inkjet technology in a sector focused on next-generation energy production.

The investment forms part of Epson’s long-term ENGINEERED FUTURE 2035 corporate vision. The company aims to support sustainable industrial and social development by applying inkjet technology to a broader range of industrial processes while improving productivity and reliability.

Epson is also targeting emerging applications in electronics, biotechnology and perovskite solar cells. Through closer cooperation with Gosan Tech, the company intends to combine its own technologies with the South Korean start-up’s manufacturing expertise and expand the practical applications of inkjet technology in these developing markets.
