Morocco launches technical audit of national DHIS2 platform

Morocco’s health ministry has launched a technical audit of DHIS2, the national platform used to collect, manage and analyse health data. The audit will assess the platform’s performance, security and ability to support growing demand for digital health data.

DHIS2 supports several national public health programmes, including those focused on HIV and tuberculosis. An earlier assessment carried out with support from HISP MENA identified areas for improvement involving infrastructure, performance, security and service availability.

The new audit will examine the platform’s wider technical environment. The review will cover its infrastructure, application, PostgreSQL database, cybersecurity arrangements and service continuity. It will also assess whether the platform can handle an increase in usage.

The ministry plans to identify potential vulnerabilities and classify them according to risk level. The assessment will then feed into a roadmap setting out measures for the short, medium and long term.

Available information does not indicate that a cyberattack or data breach triggered the audit. The exercise forms part of a preventive assessment aimed at strengthening the platform and its future capacity.

The mission is scheduled to run between July and September 2026, with an estimated budget of 170,000 Moroccan dirhams excluding tax. It is linked to a programme supported by the Global Fund under its 2024-2026 grant to Morocco.

The assignment also includes knowledge transfer to the ministry’s technical teams. The objective is to strengthen their ability to manage and maintain the platform after the audit is completed.
